Emilia-Romagna.

In summer, I try to avoid vacations in August for two reasons: the heat and the crowds. That’s why, if there’s no other option, I try to visit cool and less crowded places in August. September is ideal: cities regain real life, and places start to clear out.

Family holidays. Italy: there’s hardly anything more touristy. But you start to get a bit lucky: you go to Bologna and it rains that day. You visit Ravenna and there aren’t as many people as you expected. You head to Cesenatico and only run into Italians. You find yourself in Brisighella and realize that your family and you are the last tourists left.

I had really missed the light of these latitudes.
